Nearly seven million Ukrainians have fled the country since Russia invaded in February. The United States established Uniting for Ukraine in April as a fast-tracked pathway for displaced Ukrainians to come to the U.S
On April 21, 2022, the United States announced a key step toward fulfilling President Biden’s commitment to welcome Ukrainians fleeing Russia’s invasion.
What do we need to support and adapt Ukrainians?
- Attorney consultations and legal support
- Plane tickets to the USA (especially for those who lost everything during the war)
- Housing for the first 3-6 months
- Psychological support and PTSD treatment
- Assistance from HR in compiling resumes and help on the US labor market
- Essentials for those in need (clothes, diapers for children, baby care items)
- Food and clothes
We had Americans say, ‘I want to sponsor a Ukrainian immigrant,’ which is excellent. It’s a noble sentiment, but you cannot just sponsor anybody. We will select suitable people/families with plans for the future which know what they want.
We are looking for sponsors to assist with these costs to provide for the refugees. You can meet them, enjoy cultural experiences, and learn firsthand how the funds are spent. If you are not ready to become a sponsor, we seek donations to assist Ukrainians in their first few months in the United States.
In many countries, some sports complexes offer a free annual membership for Ukrainians. So that they do not sit in their rooms, because there is no money for anything and everything is expensive. It is also for their adaptation and development of children. Also, most European countries, including England, give refugees coupons in supermarkets and social security payments. The sponsorship program in America does not provide for this. .
Therefore, it will be possible to communicate with different donors, and maybe someone will be ready for such generosity. Who knows?
